I built this nice canopy a year ago, but the slope is too shallow and water ponds on the tarp. Fail. Another fail is condensation that drips down on my projects. So I’m giving it a rigid patio roof. Spring Break begins for me today.

If you didn’t live in a rain forest.....

But I don’t. Rains more — when it actually rains — where you live.

How about wedging a rigid layer under the tarp, but on top of the frame? Add strength and structure to the existing water barrier without reinventing the wheel. I'm thinking translucent corrugated fiberglass or even just plywood. Difficulty: condensation will probably be trapped between the layers, getting funkier than George Clinton when the IRS is breathing down his neck.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve got a solution all figured out and I’ll post some pictures once I’m finished. The tarp disappears. There’s a rigid layer of OSB that’ll get a healthy layer of primer rolled onto it. Then a layer of corrugated polycarbonate patio roofing screwed on top. The plastic roof will be able to breathe and any condensate will drip out. I live in the SF Bay Area where, sadly, rain is not a huge issue but occasionally. Lots of dew and condensation though.

The simple solution to pooling water in those setups is children with broomsticks.
